Jay Goldberg started cooking for himself at the age of 7 as a latch key kid living in Los Angeles.
He moved to Colorado where he grew up hunting, skeet and trap shooting, fly fishing and hiking in the Rocky Mountains, eventually moved back to Northern California’s Castro Valley, Jay’s passion for food continured where he planned to attend the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco but ended up going to college where he earned his bachelors degree in criminal justice management. In college, he cooked bbq for his friends on a rusted out Weber kettle which gave him the bbq bug.
Jay went on to serving more than bbq as a volunteer fire dispatcher, volunteer firefighter, and finally working patrol as a reserve police officer. Jay has always helped people and has found cooking to be a great way to reduce stress and having fun. Jay eventually left a full time public safety career, and graduated law school with a Juris Doctor Degree. He has led companies in the technology sector for the past 25 years where he is currently the chief operating officer for a family owned technology consulting firm.
Jay is currently hosting a new live Instagram interview show called “Strum Pluckin’ Good” where he interviews Instagram influencers, top chefs and focuses on small family run businesses connected to the BBQ community. His quick thinking and wit can be seen in simulcast on Youtube.com/UkuleleJayBBQ (see live feeds, photos and other images during the show) and on Instagram live every 2nd and 4th Sunday at 1pm Pacific.
Jay continues his love and passion for bbq 5-6 days a week while ocassionally playing his ukulele as he prepares for his upcoming North American Tour cooking and doing live shows with his guests, top chefs, and other BBQ Instagram followers across the U.S..and Canada.
Jay uses all methods of cooking BBQ from sous vide, to charcoal to wood pellets. Give Jay any grill and he is going to deliver huge flavor. He currently owns and cooks on the PK Grills PK360, Yoder Smokers YS640 modified with his infamous cold smoker, and the Weber 335s for his pizza and warming station.
